공공신학의 토대와 흐름 그리고 그 특징

The Foundation and History of Public Theology and its Characteristics

공공신학은 1970년대 미국에서의 시민종교에 관한 논쟁 가운데 등장하였고, 2007년 GNPT의 설립과 함께 국제적 네트워크를 통한 공동연구가 활발하게 진행되었다. 공공신학은 현대 사회의 특징과 매우 긴밀한 관계가 있다. 즉, 탈세속화, 세계화, 시민, 다원주의 사회는 종교를 공론장으로 다시 초대하기에 이른다. 그러나 기독교를 포함한 종교가 공론장에 진입하여 합리적인 대화를 통해 더 나은 사회를 만들기 위해 기여하기 위해 신앙의 언어를 세상의 언어로 번역해야 할 필요성이 있다. 모든 사람이 이해할 수 있는 언어로 번역하기 위해서 간학문적 연구는 필수적이다. 일반 학문 분과의 지식을 이용한 설득은 비기독교인들로 하여금 기독교의 목소리에 귀 기울일 수 있게 도와준다. 그러나 이 번역에는 한계 설정이 필요하고 그 한계는 성경과 기독교 전통이다. 공공신학은 정치를 향하여 방향성을 제시할 수 있는 능력을 함양해야 한다. 그러나 이것이 노골적으로 특정 정당이나 정책을 지지하는 것은 아니다. 공공신학은 특히 소외된 자, 가난한 자의 인권을 위해 헌신하고, 목소리를 잃은 자를 위해 목소리를 내야한다. 이런 공공신학은 세계 각지의 다양한 장소에서 그 지역의 맥락을 따라 다양한 모습으로 발전한다. 다양한 공공신학들은 상호 교정의 역할을 한다.

Public theology emerged during the debate over civil religion in the United States of America in the 1970s, and joint research was actively conducted through the global network with the establishment of the GNPT in 2007. Public theology is closely related to the characteristics of modern society. In other words, de-secularization, globalization, civil and pluralistic societies have invited religion back into the public sphere. However, there is a need to translate the language of faith into the language of the world in order for religions, including Christianity, to enter the public sphere and contribute to making a better society through rational dialogue. Interdisciplinary study is essential to translate into a language that everyone can understand. Persuasion using the knowledge of general academic disciplines helps non-Christians to listen to the voice of Christianity. However, this translation requires setting limits, and those limits are the Bible and Christian tradition. Public theology should nurture the ability to provide a direction toward politics. However, this does not mean explicitly supporting a particular party or policy. Public theology should be committed to the human rights of the marginalized and the poor and make a voice for the people who have lost their own voice. Such public theology develops into a particular form that reflects the context of each region around the world. The various public theologies correct each other.
