기독교철학 개념 정립을 위한 세계관의 실재론적 전회

Shifting World-view to articulate the Concept of ‘Christian Philosophy’

이 논문은 기독교철학이 무엇인지를 정의해 보려는 시도다. 정의를 내리는 전형적인 방식은 유와 종차에 의하는 것이다. ‘기독교철학’을 정의하려 할 때도 마찬가지다. 주로 유개념에 해당하는 ‘철학’을 ‘기독교적’이게 만드는 종차적 특징을 규명하는데 주력하곤 한다. 하지만 이것은 그다지 적절한 방식이 아니다. ‘기독교철학’이라는 용어 자체가 모순개념으로 간주될 수 있기 때문이다. 그러므로 ‘기독교철학’을 정의하기에 앞서, 우선 ‘철학’과 ‘기독교(적)’의 양립가능성이 확보되어야 한다. 그런데 ‘철학’에서 시작하여 ‘기독교철학’으로 좁혀 나가는 전통적 위계구조 안에서는 그 양립가능성이 확보되기 어렵다. 오히려 ‘철학’이 아니라 ‘기독교’에서 시작해야 ‘기독교철학’으로 좁혀나갈 수 있다. 그런데 이것은 단지 출발점 변경의 문제만이 아니라, 그런 식의 출발을 가능하게 하는 사고방식 즉 세계관의 근본적 전환 문제다. 이 전환은 단순히 기독교세계‘관’이라는 ‘관점’에 서는 문제가 아니다. ‘세계 = 기독교세계’라는 ‘사실’ 혹은 ‘진리’ 위에 서는 것이다. 이 입장에서 볼 때 ‘기독교철학’은 ‘참된 세상 즉 하나님이 만드시고 다스리시는 세상 안에서 철학하기’로 규정될 수 있다. 그리고 계시된 진리를 믿음에 의해 진리로 수용하는 것과 계시된 진리를 진리로 이해하는 것은 같은 것이 아닐 수 있는 한, 기독교철학은 ‘믿음으로 소유된 진리를 이해하려는 인간의 지적 활동’이라고 할 수도 있다.

This article is an attempt to define what ‘Christian Philosophy’ is. Defining by genus and difference is the most common way to define something intentionally. Its about the same in case of ‘Christian Philosophy’. We usually focus on identifying the specific difference which makes a philosophy ‘Christian’. But this does not seems to be a proper strategy, insofar as the term ‘Christian Philosophy’ could be counted as contradictory. Prior, then, to discussing what Christian Philosophy is, the compatibility between the term ‘Christian’ and ‘philosophy’ must be examined. It seems, however, that this compatibility could not be secured, if we, by adding some differences to the ‘philosophy’ as a genus, try to narrow it down to ‘Christian philosophy’. Rather, ‘Christianity’ should be the point of departure. This is not only a matter of changing the precedure, but also of changing our way of thinking. The importance of having a Christian worldview could not be overemphasized. But the more important than our view of the world is the world itself, that is, the fact that the world itself is actually a world of Christian God, being created and governed by Him. In this context, Christian philosophy could be defined as ‘an act of philosophizing in the world of God the Creator and Governer’. Now, inasmuch as to accept the revealed truth as truth by faith does not means necessarily to understand it as truth, the Christian philosophy could also be taken as ‘our efforts to understand intellectually the truth accepted and owned by faith’.
