South Korea's Policy Toward Northeast Asia and its Interactions with Mongolia

Strengthening its alliance with the US while maintaining smooth economic relationships with China has been a major challenge to South Korea for years. At the same time, South Korea is eager to the creation of multilateral cooperation mechanisms in cooperation with Northeast Asian countries. Furthermore, Korea plans to grow as a middle power in the global level through the fostering multilateral cooperation system in the region that addresses non-traditional security issues. The purpose of this paper is to find out how South Korean policymakers intend to envision relations and cooperation with Mongolia in this policy. South Korea is the third neighbor to Mongolia and one of the main partners in East Asia. Since the Park Geun-Hye administration, it has included its policy and plans for relations with our country within the framework of the regional cooperation policy. Through analyzing the policy toward the Northeast Asian region, it can be concluded that the current policy towards Mongolia is focused on three main points: health, environment, and energy and infrastructural cooperation at the regional level. Within the health sector, medical tourism, infection control, and customs cooperation are getting tangible results.
