A Study on the Writing of Advanced Japanese Learners: A Study on the Cohesion of Writing

本稿は、日本語上級者の作文に現れた文の結束性に焦点を当て、その実態を把握し、日本語上級者の作文の指導に応用することを目的にしたものである。 分析対象の資料は、韓国人と日本人の学生がペアになって学習を行う ｢タンデム授業｣で提出された、日本語能力試験N1の資格を持っている韓国人学習者の学習日誌である。分析方法は、日本語教育の現場に携わっている日本人教師二人に、学習者の作文における不自然な日本語表現をチェックしてもらい、その結果から不自然さの原因を探ってみた。 考察の結果、一番目立ったのは、読点を入れるべきところに読点がつけられていないことであった。また、指示詞や接続表現の欠如、そして文語体と口語体の混同などが文の結束性を弱化させる原因であることがわかった。 このような分析結果は、日本語上級者であっても文章の構成に対する認識が必要であり、文章作成スキルに対する教育も必要であることを示唆している。 この考察が、上級日本語学習者のための作文の指導に生かせる材料になれば幸いである。

This study focuses on the ‘cohesion’ in the writing of high-level Japanese learners. The purpose of the study is to understand Japanese learners’ writing patterns and guide them to improve their writing skill. The analysed data are the high-level Japanese learners’ study diaries submitted in the ‘Tandem Class’. The analysis method was to have two Japanese teachers check the awkward expressions in the writings. The results of the consideration are as follows. First, there were many sentences in which punctuation symbols were not placed appropriately. Second, there were sentences in which demonstratives and connectives were not used properly. In addition, in some sentences, there is a mixture of the written style and the spoken style, which weakens the cohesion of sentences. It is important to instruct learners to be careful of using those expressions that weaken the cohesion of the sentences. It is hoped that the results of this thesis will help to teach writing for the advanced level Japanese learners.
