물질주의와 온정적 성차별주의가 한국 여자대학생의 신체수치심에 미치는 영향

The Relationships Between Materialism, Benevolent Sexism, and Body Shame in South Korean College Women: The Mediating Effects of Internalization, Body-Surveillance, and Face-Surveillance

연구목적: 본 연구에서는 물질주의와 온정적 성차별주의가 여자대학생들의 자기대상화 경험에 미치는 영향을 대상화 이론을 토대로 살펴보았다. 연구방법: 본 연구에서는 물질주의, 온정적 성차별주의, 미의 기준 내면화, 신체감시, 얼굴감시, 신체수치심 간에 관계를 인과적 구조모형을 설정하여 국내 여자대학생 472명을 대상으로 모형의 적합도를 검증하였다. 연구결과: 물질주의는 미의 기준 내면화, 신체감시, 얼굴감시에 직접적인 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 온정적 성차별주의는 미의 기준 내면화, 얼굴감시, 신체수치심에 직접적인 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 매개효과의 경우, 물질주의가 미의 기준 내면화와 얼굴감시를 통해 신체수치심에 간접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 온정적 성차별주의가 미의 기준 내면화와 얼굴감시를 통해 신체수치심에 간접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 학술적 기여: 본 연구는 물질주의와 온정적 성차별주의가 국내 여자대학생들의 자기대상화 경험에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 선행변인으로서의 역할을 입증하여 기존의 대상화 이론과 선행연구들을 확장하고 이를 바탕으로 상담실제에 시사점을 제시하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

On the basis of Objectification Theory, the present study examined the mediating effects of internalization of beauty ideals, body surveillance, face surveillance in the relationships between materialism, benevolent sexism and body shame. A total of 472 female college students from various universities located in South Korea participated in this study. Results from structural equation modeling analysis indicated that the measurement model yielded evidence of good fit. Bootstrap methods were used to estimate the magnitude of indirect effects. As a result, materialism directly influenced internalization, body-surveillance and face-surveillance. The link between materialism and body shame was mediated by internalization and face-surveillance. Furthermore, benevolent sexism directly influenced internalization, face-surveillance and body shame. The link between benevolent sexism and body shame was mediated by internalization and face-surveillance. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
