한 초등학생의 유튜버 경험에 대한 디지털 문화기술지 : 미디어 리터러시 역량의 변화를 중심으로

A Digital Ethnography about an Elementary Student's Experience as a YouTuber : Focusing on Changes in Media Literacy Competencies

이 논문의 목적은 한 초등학생의 유튜버 경험에 대한 디지털 문화기술지를 통해 미디어 교육에 대한 시사점을 모색하는 것이다. 본 연구의 참여자는 연구자의 딸인 초등학교4학년 여학생이며. 연구기간은 2021년 1월 11일부터 10월 11일까지이며, 연구방법은 디지털 문화기술지이다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구참여자의 미디어 콘텐츠 생산 역량이 함양되었다. 둘째, 연구참여자의 미디어 콘텐츠 수용 역량의 발전하였다. 셋째, 연구참여자의 미디어향유주체로서 책임감이 생성되었다. 이 연구의 미디어 교육에 대한 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 미디어 리터러시는 ‘배우고 한다’라는 이론 중심 교육이 아닌, ‘하면서 배운다’ 는 경험주의적 교육의 필요하다. 둘째, 미디어 생산물에 대한 ‘성찰’이 이루어질 때 미디어 리터러시 역량이 함양된다. 성찰 있는 미디어 향유가 미디어 소비자를 주체적 생산자로 만든다. 셋째, 디지털 원주민과 디지털 이주민의 소통이 필요하다는 것을 시사한다. 이처럼 초등학생 유튜버의 성찰적인 미디어 향유는 주체적인 미디어 리터러시 함양의가능성을 제시한다. 또한 ‘실천지’로서 미디어 리터러시 역량이 함양될 수 있도록 실제 기반의 미디어교육이 학교현장에서 이루어져야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to explore implications for media education through digital ethnography about an elementary student's experience as a YouTuber. The participant of this study is the researcher's daughter, a 4th grade elementary school girl. The research period is from January 11 to October 11, 2021, and the research method is a digital ethnography. The research results are as follows; First, the research participant, name Jang-mi, her ability to produce media contents is developed. Second, her ability to accept media contents has developed. Third, responsibility is created as the subject of media enjoyment of her. The implications of this study is that media literacy requires empirical education of ‘learning while doing’ rather than theory-centered education of ‘learn and do’. And media literacy competency is fostered when ‘reflection’ on media products takes place. Fianlly, it suggests the need for communication between digital natives and digital migrants. As such, the reflective media enjoyment of elementary student YouTuber, Jang-mi suggests the possibility of cultivating subjective media literacy. In addition, actual-based media education should be conducted at school sites so that media literacy competency can be cultivated as a 'phronesis'.
