The purpose of this paper is to reveal philosophical basis for education as hospitality by analyzing the meanings of Henri Nouwen and J. Derrida’s understandings of hospitality. It is also to provide educational implications for reconstruction of educational systems as hospitality For education as hospitality, this paper examines Henri Nouwen’s human attitude and J. Derrida’s nconditioned hospitality works through the philosophical approach rather than from the commonly used pastoral theological approach or clinic psychological approach. The concept of hospitality can offer a new dimension to our understanding of a healing relationship and the formation of a re-creative community in a word so visibly suffering from alienation and estrangement. Hospitality means primarily the creation of a free space where the stranger can enter and become a friend instead of an enemy. Hospitality is not to change people, but to offer them space where change can take place. The term hospitality, therefore, as a fundamental attitude and caring toward our fellow human being, should be used in classroom and for school innovation.
