Onyang Folk Museum owns a Lacquered comba box with Mother-of-Pearl - bitjeop. The bottom and sides of the drawer were damaged, and the black lacquer varnished on the lid disappeared. Therefore, scientific analysis and conservation treatment were progressed. We tried to establish basic data to understand the materials and preservation processes of modern wooden lacquered craftworks. As a result of the scientific analysis, the Lacquered comba box with Mother-of-Pearl - bitjeop. is made of Hard Pine and the lacquered surface is made up various overlapped layers from the foundation layer to the coating layer. The brown layer in the middle of several layers has silicon, aluminum, and iron, indicating that it is mixed with soil and lacquer. The coating layer was identified as cashew because it includes Cardanol polymer. The metal decoration was confirmed to be brass. We pasted the wood that fell from the drawer with animal glue and wood powder. The mother-of-pearl was cut out along the remanent pattern, attached with animal glue, and surroundings of the pattern were filled with lacquer. Wooden lacquered craftworks are sensitive to temperature and humidity, so it is difficult to dry the coating for a long time in a drying place. Because of this, we only proceeded the degree of restoring shape of the Mother-of-Pearl that completely disappeared. It allows to show the original shape of the artifact with trace of time.
