Analysis of Beginning and Development of Korean Art Furniture

In the 21st century, as the boundaries between art and design became blurred and the boundaries between the fields of art were breaking down, the public's interest in art furniture increased and the perception of furniture changed. In Korea, the term art furniture began to be used in the 1990s, and from 2000 onwards, not only art furniture exhibitions but also related research and seminars were actively developed. However, most of the art furniture related papers have studied Western cases, and research on Korean art furniture has not been done until now. Of course, it was a short period of about 30 years, and the exhibition activities gradually increased in 2000. Researchers have also been conducting various studies related to art furniture. Through this study, the possibility of artistic expression of furniture was explored, and the values of the times and various forms of expression of art furniture were analyzed. However, a series of studies were all conducted through cases of overseas art furniture, which made me feel the need for research on Korean art furniture. Therefore, this study intends to analyze how the concept of art furniture that was formed a long time ago started in Korea, its causes, and to study how it has developed. The purpose of this study is to analyze the birth and development of art furniture in Korea, and through this, it is meaningful to organize the history of art furniture in Korea, and to use it as an opportunity to assess what is necessary for the development of art furniture in Korea in the future.
