McLuhan의 매체 이론이 메타버스 교육에 주는 함의

A Study on the Implications of McLuhan’s Media Theory for Metaverse Education

이 논문에서는 McLuhan의 매체 이론의 관점에서 메타버스(Metaverse)와 메타버스 교육을 고찰하였다. 이 논문은 “McLuhan의 매체 이론과 교육”, “메타버스와 교육”, 그리고 “McLuhan의 미래 교육에 비추어 본 메타버스 교육” 등 세 부분으로 구성된다. 연구 결과 메타버스의 패러다임 전환적 특성, 즉 “참여성”, “전인성”, “다양성”, “확장성”이 McLuhan의 미래 교육 패러다임과 유사한 방향성을 나타내고 있다는 것을 발견하였다. 또한 메타버스 교육이 McLuhan이 전망한 미래 교육의 패러다임 즉, “교육의 장”, “교육의 목적”, “교수-학습”, “교육의 성격”, “교사와 학생의 이미지” 등에서 McLuhan의 그것과 유사한 구조를 나타내고 있다는 것을 발견하였다. 마지막으로 메타버스가 인쇄매체 시대의 교육을 극복하고 패러다임 전환을 가져올 수 있는 새로운 매체라고 하는 것을 발견하였다. 메타버스 ‘환경 자체가 교육’하기 때문이다. 결론적으로 이 논문에서는 메타버스 교육을 보는 우리의 관점이 ‘어떻게 메타버스 플랫폼을 교육에 활용하는 것인가’에서 ‘어떻게 메타버스 플랫폼 자체를 교육적으로 조성할 것인가’로 바뀌어야 한다는 점을 강조하였다.

This paper examines the metaverse and metaverse education from the perspective of McLuhans‘ media Theory. This paper consists of three parts: “McLuhan’s media theory and education”, “metaverse and education”, and “metaverse education in the light of McLuhan‘s future education”. As a result of the study, it was found that the paradigm shifting characteristics of the metaverse, that is, “participation”, “holistic character”, “diversity”, and “scalability”, showed a direction similar to McLuhan's future education paradigm. In addition, the paradigm of future education predicted by McLuhan in metaverse education, that is, “place of education”, “purpose of education”, “teaching-learning relationship”, “characteristic of education”, “image of teachers and students” showed almost the same structure as that of McLuhan. Finally, it was discovered that the metaverse is a new medium that can overcome the education of the print media era and bring about a paradigm shift. In conclusion, this paper emphasized that our perspective on metaverse education should be changed from ‘How to use the Metaverse platform for the education’ to ‘How to create the Metaverse platform itself educationally’.
