2015 개정 중·고등학교 국어과 교과서에 수록된 설화 제재의 교육 양상에 대한 비판적 검토

Critical Review on the Folklore Material and Learning Activities in Korean Language Textbooks in Middle and High Schools

목적 : 이 연구는 중·고등학교의 국어과 교과서에서 설화 제재를 어떻게 다루고 있는지 살펴봄으로써 문제점을 밝히고 개선 방향을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 방법 : 이를 위해 2015 국어과 교육과정에 기반을 둔 중·고등학교의 ‘국어’ 및 ‘문학’ 교과서에 수록된 설화 제재 수록 양상과 학습활동 내용을 비판적으로 검토하였다. 결과: 해당 교과서의 설화들은 일부 교육적 가치를 적절히 활용하지 못한 채 성취기준의 반영 수단으로 활용되거나, 특정 제재에 편중되는 모습을 보이고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 학습활동 내용 역시 문학교육 내용체계 가운데 역사, 장르 지식 습득 위주의 내용 구성을 보이고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 결론 : 이에 다음과 같은 개선 방향을 도출하였다. 첫째, 다양한 설화 작품들을 본문 제재로 수록하여 균형 잡힌 교육 내용을 마련해야 한다. 둘째, 학습활동의 획일화를 지양하고, 작품의 다양한 접근 방식을 전제로 교육내용을 구성할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 인쇄매체의 태생적 한계를 극복하고 설화 작품 고유의 특성을 온전히 반영할 수 있는 새로운 교재 환경의 모색이 이루어져야 한다.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify problems and suggest improvement directions by examining how Korean language textbooks in middle and high schools deal with folklore materials. Methods: In order to accomplish this research purpose, it critically reviewed the aspects of narrative sanctions and learning activities included in the textbooks of “Korean Language” and “Literature” of middle and high schools based on the 2015 Korean language curriculum. Results: The findings of data analysis showed that the folklore in the textbook were used as a means of reflecting achievement standards without properly utilizing some educational values, or were biased toward certain materials. Conclusion: Instructional implications for the classroom and suggestions for further study were also discussed. The improvement directions are as follows: 1) Various folklores should be included in the text to prepare a balanced curriculum. 2) It is necessary to avoid uniformity of learning activities and to organize educational contents on the premise of various approaches to the work. 3) The search for a new textbook environment that can overcome the inherent limitations of print media and fully reflect the unique characteristics of the narrative works should be made.
