This study analyzed literature on the image and role of coffee in Korean society, which has already entered maturity. As a result, coffee has become an object of consumption that shows off a sense of excellence while breaking away from the original function of a modern, everyday, and refreshing beverage. In addition, in recent years, coffee has become a fair coffee and organic coffee for sustainable growth. It became an approaching object. Meanwhile, as a result of analyzing the role of coffee, first, it played a role as a medium of healing and exchange. Second, it played a role in migration and regional economic change. Third, it played a role in driving the development of the restaurant industry. Fifth, it played a role in creating a cafe street for urban regeneration or holding a coffee festival to revitalize the local economy. Therefore, this study pointed out that the image of coffee in Korean society(sophistication, specialty, luxury, and modernity) should be actively used. First, we must provide the emotion of healing and exchange. Second, it is necessary to provide a space for unique experiential healing experiences. Third, the functional transformation of the cafe and its role as a space that provides freedom to all people should continue. This was suggested as a way to lead the development of the coffee industry in Korean society.
