An Analysis on the Process of Coffee Development through Korean Political History

본 연구는 한국이 커피의 주요 소비국이 된 것은 커피가 서구화의 상징이었으며, 한국인의 사교행위의 주요 매개 수단이었기 때문이라는 점과 우리나라 역사상 가장 정치적인 산물이라고 할 수 있기 때문에 이에 대한 정치사를 통해 본 커피의 발전과정 분석 연구이다. 이는 커피가 우리나라 외식산업의 역사 이래로 가장 급성장한 분야이면서 정치적 발전사와 함께 했기 때문이다. 이와 같은 분석을 통해 본 연구는 우리나라에서 커피문화와 커피산업이 한국 정치사의 발전과 함께 건전하게 성장할 수 있는 계기를 제공하고자 했다.

This study attempts to analyze how coffee came into Korea 's history, how it has become established in our culture, and how it has evolved in political history. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between coffee, politics, and government in Korean society until December 2016, before and after the process of accepting coffee in Korea. Until the Starbucks was created in front of Ewha Womans University in 1999 after the Japanese colonial era, coffee in Korea became a foundation for rapid development by various motives such as politics, economy and culture. For this study, primary and secondary data used in the study of political history of coffee were analyzed. It includes research on Korean coffee history, political and social research on coffee, various domestic magazines and newspapers on coffee and popular culture, government documents on government policies related to coffee, and interviews of people involved in the development of coffee. This study suggests that Korea became a major consumer of coffee because it was a symbol of westernization and a major means of socialization of Koreans. This is the study of the relationship between coffee and politics, which is historically the most political product. This is because it was the fastest growing sector since the history of Korea's food service industry and it has been with political development. Through this analysis, this study aims to provide an opportunity for the coffee culture and the coffee industry to grow soundly along with the development of Korean political history in Korea.
