‘한글 맞춤법’의 문법 용어 고찰 － 언어 사용자의 리터러시를 중심으로

Grammatical Terminology of Hangul Orthography: Focusing on the Literacy of Language Users

이 연구에서는 우리 나라 주요 언어 규범 중 하나인 ‘한글 맞춤법’에 대한 언어 전공자가 아닌 언어 사용자의 인식을 확인하는 것을 목적으로 한다. ‘한글 맞춤법’의 존재의 의의와 가치는 충분히 존재하지만, 언어 사용자들에게는 삶 속에서 ‘한글 맞춤법’이라는 언어 규범이 생소하다는 문제점이 있다. 그에 대해 설문 조사를 시행하여 언어 사용자들이 한글 맞춤법의 문법 개념 용어에 익숙하지 않음을 확인하였다. 설문 조사에서 17개의 문법 개념 용어 중 ‘음절’, ‘두 음 법칙’, ‘조사’, ‘어간’, ‘접미사’를 제외한, 제시된 문법 개념 용어들에 대해 설문 참여자의 과 반수가 모른다는 답을 했다. ‘체언’과 ‘용언’의 경우 70%이상 그 의미를 알지 못한다고 응답했고, ‘보조 용언’과 ‘예사소리’의 경우는 모른다는 응답이 83%이상이 되었다. 이에 대한 해결책으로 ‘한글 맞춤법 해설’ 수정, 간략한 문법 개념집 제공, 학교 교육 개정 등을 제안했다. 이러한 시도는 중요한 언어 규범인 ‘한글 맞춤법’이 언어 사용자에게 더욱 효과적으로 존재할 수 있도록 기회를 제공할 수 있다고 생각한다.

This study aimed to survey the knowledge of Korean grammatical terminology among language users, who are not experts in Hangul orthography. Although the meaning and value of Hangul orthography are sufficiently recognized, there is a problem of its unfamiliarity among language users, and the survey confirmed that language users were unfamiliar with the grammatical terminology of Hangul orthography. Among the 17 grammatical concept terms, the majority of respondents answered that they did not know the presented grammatical concept terms besides “syllable,” “initial law,” “particle,” “stem,” and “suffix.” More than 70% of the respondents answered that they did not know the meaning of “substantive” or “predicate,” and more than 83% of the respondents did not know the meaning of “auxiliary predicate” or “basic sound.” Accordingly, I suggest revising the Hangul orthography commentary, providing a brief grammar concept book, and improving school education. As an important language norm, efforts are needed to ensure the more effective use of Hangul orthography among language users.
