The Educational Method of Writing for Art Students: Focusing on the Textual Analysis in both Writing and Sketching

The purpose of this study was to develop an educational method of teaching art students writing skills, focusing on the textual analysis in both writing and sketching. This study employed two data collection materials. One is a writing test, and the other is a sketching test. For data analysis, this study examined textual features shown in the two tests. The statistical data analysis indicated that first of all, the textual features in both writing and sketching had a strong correlation between them. Furthermore, the intertextuality in sketching has a strong correlation with other features in writing. Next, informativity had a strong power of explanation of writing ability, whereas cohesion had a strong power of the explanation of sketching ability. Both informativity and cohesion had a close relationship with both intentionality and acceptability. That is to say, these are very important in teaching undergraduate art students Korean writing skills. This study showed the importance of both correlation and causal relationship in writing and sketching, and suggested incorporating them into textual knowledge as a teaching method for art students.
