기업특성에 따른 연구개발비 인식이 기업가치에 미치는 영향

The Effect of R&D Expenditures on Firms Value: The Characteristics of Firms

[연구목적] 4차 산업 중심의 산업 재편으로 연구개발비 지출에 따른 산업재산권과 같은 무형자산의 창출·보호·관리 그리고 활용이 기업경영의 중요전략으로 대두되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기업특성인 산업별 차이(high－tech 산업 또는 low－tech 산업)에 따른 연구개발비용의 인식이 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하고자 한다. [연구방법] 기업가치 측정 방법으로는 많은 연구에서 기업가치의 대용변수(proxy)로 사용된 Tobin’s Q를 기업가치로 정의한 모형과 기업가치의 대용변수로 진동민(2015)의 연구 결과에 따라 측정이 어려운 부채의 시장가치를 제거하여 자산의 장부가치 대비 자본의 시장가치를 기업가치로 정의한 모형을 실증분석 하였다. [연구결과] 실증분석결과를 다음 3가지로 요약 할 수 있다. 첫째, 당기 비용인 경상연구개발비와 무형자산인 개발비의 지출은 자본시장에서 기업가치에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 검정되었다. 둘째, 기술 집약적인 high－tech 산업에 속한 기업의 기업가치가 그렇지 않은 low－tech 산업에 속한 기업 보다 높게 평가된다는 것이 검정되었다. 마지막 셋째, 전 세계적으로 경제, 정치 그리고 문화 전반에 영향을 미친 코로나 팬데믹 전·후로 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. [연구의 시사점] 연구·개발 단계에서의 지출은 자본시장에서 긍정적인 신호로 인식되며 특히, 자본시장에서 기술집약적 산업(high－tech)에 속한 기업의 기업가치가그렇지 않은 기업보다 높게 평가 되었다.

[Purpose] Intangible assets are very important in the present business environment. Thus the purpose of this study is an empirical study on the effect of R&D expenditure on the capital market according to firm’s characteristics. [Methodology] In this study, empirical study the effect of recognition of R&D costs according to the industry difference (high－tech industry or low－tech industry) on firm value. [Findings] The result of The empirical research are as follow：Firstly, it is found that normal R&D cost and intangible asset development costs significantly a positive effect on firm value at the capital market. Secondly the firm value of companies high－tech industries is evaluated higher than that of companies low－tech industries. Lastly there is no difference pre－post corona pandemic. [Implications] R&D expenditures are recognized as new information at the capital market, and the efficiency of the capital market is improved. The firm value of high－tech is evaluated higher than low－tech, this result suggests a difference between firm’s characteristics.
