A Study on the Prediction of Relationship between Mukbang Viewing Time and Physical Characteristics and Eating Behaviors in Adults

This study was conducted to study the prediction of Mukbang viewing time and relationship with physical characteristics and dietary behavioral factors in adults. 800 adults(400 males and 400 females) who have watched Mukbang were surveyed using self-report questionnaire. The contents of the questionnaire consisted of 66 questions, including general information (age, gender, occupation, family member, income level), Mukbang viewing time, motives for viewing Mukbang, behavior after viewing Mukbang, subjective body type recognition, weight control, interest in health, frequency of exercise, height, eating behavior(breakfast frequency, delivery order frequency, late-night eating frequency), eating habits(balance, moderation, health practice) and food preference. All survey data were analyzed using the ‘Randomforest’ package among Rstudio programs based on R.3.6.1 for random forest analysis. According to the Randomforest, Mukbang viewing time was most correlated with BMI(body mass index), followed by frequency of ordering delivery food, weight, age, and number of families. As a result of showing the importance of variables according to the body mass index using the rest of the variables excluding weight and height, the order that influenced the body mass index was the highest Mukbang viewing time, followed by gender, age, subjective body type recognition, and health interest and frequency of ordering delivery food. It seems that nutrition education is needed for those who watch a lot of Mukbang shows to improve their lifestyle and eating habits as well as increase physical activities.
