형사사법 연구에서 활용되는 요인분석의 사용 관행과 개선방안

Practice and Improvement of Factor Analysis in Criminal Justice Research

본 연구는 형사사법 분야의 조사연구에서 척도의 타당도를 검증을 위하여 요인분석이 사용되는 관행을 살펴보고, 개선방안을 제안하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 한국연구재단에 등재된 형사사법 분야의 4개의 학술지에 2017년부터 2021년까지 게재된 조사연구 259편 중 요인분석을 사용하여 척도의 타당도를 검증한 97편의 논문을 연구 대상으로 선정하였다. 76편(78.4%)의 논문에서 타당도 검증을 위하여 탐색적 요인분석을 실시한 것으로 나타나 타당도 검증 방법으로 탐색적 요인분석을 관행적으로 사용하고 있음을 확인하였다. 탐색적 요인분석을 실시한 논문을 대상으로 KMO 및 Bartlett의 구형성 검정, 요인수효 결정 방법, 요인추출 및 회전 방법 및 요인분석 결과 보고 내용을 살펴보았다. 그 결과, KMO 지수 및 Bartlett의 구형성 검정 결과를 보고하지 않은 논문이 59.2%였으며, 요인수효 결정 방법을 보고하지 않은 논문이 77.6%이었다. 요인 추출 방법의 경우 보고하지 않은 경우가 60.5%였으며, 보고한 경우 대부분 주성분 분석을 사용한 것으로 나타났다. 회전의 경우 언급하지 않은 경우가 52.6%로 가장 많았으며, 회전 방법 중에는 베리맥스(직각 회전)을 가장 많이 한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 탐색적 요인분석 결과 보고가 대부분 미흡한 경우로 나타났다. 마지막으로 아동청소년패널데이터를 활용하여 확인적 요인분석, 주성분분석 및 탐색적 요인분석 결과를 비교하였다.

This study examined the practices used to verify the validity of scales in the criminal justice areas and confirmed whether these practices were correct. Among 259 research papers published in journals listed by KCI from 2017 to 2021, 97 papers were selected for this study, which used factor analysis to verify the validity of the scale. 78.4% of papers conducted exploratory factor analysis to verify validity. It was confirmed that KMO statistics and Bartlett’s test of sphericity, methods to determine the number of factors, factor extraction methods, factor-axis rotation methods, result-presentation methods were performed. As a result, 59.2% of papers did not report the results of the KMO statistics and Bartlett sphericity tests, and 77.6% did not report the method of determining the number of factors. In the case of factor extraction method, 60.5% did not report it, and most of them used principal component analysis. In the case of rotation, 52.6% did not mention it, and VARIMAX(orthogonal rotation) was the most common method of factor-axis rotation. In addition, exploratory factor analysis showed that the report was almost inadequate. Finally, the analysis results by confirmatory factor analysis, exploratory factor analysis and principal component analysis were compared using child and youth panel data in practice.
