백성욱 박사의 삼지(三枝)사회조직론 연구

A Study on Dr. Baek Sung-wook's Three Branch-Social Organization Theory

백성욱 박사의 저작 중, 그의 박사학위 논문인 “불교순전철학,”이 그의 기본철학을 대표한다면 “삼지사회조직론”은 이를 현대 생활에 응용한 실천철학이라 할 수 있다. 백성욱 박사의 철학과 실천적 삶을 이해하는데 매우 중요한 글이다. 여기서 우리는 칸트 철학, 현대 자연과학의 성과 그리고 그가 독일에 유학할 때 유행하던 신지학 등의 영향을 볼 수 있다. 그는 이들을 동아시아의 불교철학과 한국의 전통민족사상과 종합하여 자신의 독창적 이론을 만들었다. 그는 현대과학의 우주론을 참고하여 태양계, 은하계 같은 대우주나 원자, 전자와 같은 미립자의 소우주나 인간에게도 하나의 일리(一理)가 적용된다는 점을 밝혀냈다. 우주가 어느 차원에서나 하나의 중심을 놓고 궤도를 운행하는데 어느 경우나 자기의 위치와 분수를 지키면 진화 향상하고 그렇지 않으면 원자나 별이나 폭발한다고 보았다. 인류의 역사를 상고하면 인류는 정신생활, 법률생활, 경제생할의 세 궤도로 운행해 왔다고 한다. 그런데 이 중 어느 하나가 독주하면 인류는 불행했다고 하였다. 종교 생활이 독주하던 고대나 중세 암흑시대, 왕권의 전횡으로 법률생활이 지배하던 시대가 그러했고 마르크스주의가 주장하는 경제 제일주의의 지배도 결국은 인류를 불행하게 할 것이라고 예견했다. 그는 경제생활은 인체의 혈액순환과 같아서 분배를 잘해야 경제가 원활하게 잘 돌아가는데 이는 결국 사람들이 탐심을 내지 말고 자기 분수에 맞게 취해야 한다고 하였다. 법률생활은 인체의 척추와 같아서 불평하는 마음이 없어야 하며 그러기 위해서는 정의로 운영되어야 한다고 하였다. 불평하는 마음 성내 는 마음을 진정시키는 정신생활이 함께 해야 한다고 보았다. 정신생활은 생활의 중심을 잡고 명령을 내리는 대뇌에 해당하며 세 가지 생활 중에서 가장 중요하다. 종교, 학술, 예술 등이 이에 해당하며 각 분야에서 우주의 일리(一理)를 찾아 인류 생활을 향상시켜야 한다고 하였다. 백성욱 박사의 철학과 일생은 삼지사회조직론을 통해 좀 더 잘 이해할 수 있다.

Among the works of Dr. Baek Sung-wook, his doctoral dissertation, “Buddhist Metaphysics,” represents his pure philosophy, while “the Three Branch Social Organization Theory” is the practical philosophy applied to modern life, Here we can see the effects of Kant's philosophy, the achievements of modern natural science, and Theosophy which was popular when he studied in Germany. He combined them with Buddhist philosophy in East Asia and traditional Korean philosophy to create his own theory. By referring to cosmology in modern science, he found that one same principle applies to the micro-cosmos as well as macro-cosmos. He contends that the universe would improve its evolution if it kept its position and origins at any level, or it would explode. If we appeal the history of mankind, it is said that mankind has been operating in three orbits: mental life, legal life, and economic life. However, if one of them oppressed others mankind was unhappy. The ancient and medieval dark ages, when economic and legal life was dominated by religious life, mankind was unhappy. When legal life dominates other lives, mankind was also unhappy. The rule of economic firstism, which Marxists claimed, also predicted that it would eventually make mankind unhappy. He said that economic life is like the blood circulation of the human body so that the economy can run smoothly only when it is distributed well. In that life people should take according to their own means instead of being greedy. Legal life is like the spine of the human body, so there should be no complaint, and in order to do so, it should be operated by justice. Complaining mind angry thought that a soothing mental life should be shared. Mental life is the external equivalent of taking the center of life and giving orders, and it is the most important of the three. Spiritual life includes religion, academia, and art. By the practicing of mental life we can discover cosmic logic in each field,.we would improve human life. Through the Theory of Three Branch Social Organization Theory we can easily understand Dr. Baek Sung-wook's thought and life.
