평화교육의 수용을 통한 통일교육 개선

A Study on Unification Education through the view of Peace Education: the focus on moral subject in Elementary school

2000년 6월의 남북정상회담 이후 북핵문제 등 일련의 진통을 겪고 있기는 하지만, 역사의 큰 흐름에서 볼 때 현재의 남북 양측은 분단 이후 지속되어 온 적대적이고 폭력적인 관계를 넘어 상호협력적 공생관계로의 전환을 적극 모색하고 있다. 이러한 추세에 따라 통일교육에 대한 새로운 방향 제시와 패러다임 그리고 내용 개선에 대한 요구가 점차적으로 거세지고 있다. 그러나 안타깝게도 다수의 통일교육 담당 교사와 담당자들은 현 상황에 대해 혼란스러워하거나 부담스러워하면서 새롭게 조성된 남북한의 화해협력 관계와 평화적 통일 여건을 뒷받침하는 교육적 노력에 주저하면서 이러한 변화에 체계적으로 대응하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 어쨋던 이러한 어려움 속에서도 통일교육의 새로운 방향과 관련하여 다양한 접근들이 제시되고 있는데, 그 중 가장 설득력있는 접근은 남북관계의 기존 틀을 뒤흔드는 남북한 평화 무드 조성과 이에 크게 영향을 받아 주목받는 비폭력 및 갈등해결에 초점을 둔 평화지향 혹은 평화교육적 접근이라고 하겠다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 평화교육적 관점에서 평화교육적 요소들을 고려하면서 통일교육의 나아갈 방향에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 그리고 이를 보다 구체화하고자 초등학교 도덕과에서의 통일교육을 대상으로 하여 그 문제점과 개선방향을 제시해 보았다. 이를 통해 궁극적으로는 통일문제에 대한 학습자의 평화 이해와 평화능력을 함양시키고자 하며 이를 기대한다.

From the division of Korea to recently, the unification education of south Korea changed several times by degrees. It were anti-communist education, unification and security education, unification education. Particularly, after summit talks of South-North korea, the relation between North and South Korea has been changed into cooperative coexistence from hostile. However, unification education could not suit systematically in making cooperative relation and ground for unification which is being made recently. Under this circumstance, this paper is to study and suggest direction of unification education in moral subject in elementary school to take the view of peace education. The division of the peninsula is the main fact of direct, structural and cultural violence, so we should find the the way to overcome the various violence resoluted from the division of this peninsula. Now unification education to take peace oriented view have to start reducing the hostility each other. Thus the unification education to take view of peace education will make the ability of the peace to pupil.
