Investigation of the Effect of Antimicrobials Contained in Cosmetics on the Skin Microbials

The effect of antimicrobials contained in cosmetics on the skin microbials was investigated. The volunteers who were in twenties put on skincare and makeup as usual. We took the microbials from their forehead, index finger and middle finger and cultured for two days. The cosmetics used by volunteers had 18 antimicrobials totally and 2~3 for each cosmetics. From the result of culture, cosmetics-using group showed less propagation than unusing group. However, the difference in propagation was small. From the antimicrobials point of view, 1,2-hexandediol showed less antimicrobial activity on skin than phenoxyethanol.
