History of Korean Festival: Focusing on the Modern and Contemporary History

The purpose of this study is to analyze the history of Korean festival in order for understanding Korean social context and development process in the view of historic perspectives. To achieve the objective, this study mainly focused on the historical festival context that how Korean festivals’ changed as a cultural organism and how to reflect the social conditions. According to the study, modern and contemporary history of Korean festival is divided into totally 4 periods. Each period includes ‘1960`s~mid-1970`s: revival of traditional culture’, ‘late 1970`s~1980`s: restoration of local culture,’ ‘1990`s~mid-2000`s: quantitative growing period’, and ‘since mid-2000`s: issue of qualitative growth’. This flow of historical context reflects our lives and communication.
