다문화 사회의 문식성 신장을 위한 한국어교육의 전략

The Strategies of Korean Language Education as a Foreign Language for Increasing Literacy in Multicultural Society: Focusing on Perspectives of Literature Education

이 글은 다문화 사회에서 문식성 신장을 위한 한국어교육의 전략을 문학교육에 초점을 맞추어 논의하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 다문화와 문식성이라는 두 용어의 결합의 복합적인 성격을 고려하여, 그동안 국어교육계에서 논의되었던 문식성이라는 개념을 재검토하였다. 이를 통하여 다문화 문식성, 다문화 사회의 특성을 설명하였으며, 한국어교육에서 다문화 문식성 신장의 중요성을 논의하였다. 그리고 이 글은 다문화 문식성 신장을 위해서 기능적인 능력뿐만 아니라 언어나 문학 관련 지식, 사회 문화적 능력 등이 중요함을 밝혔다. 이런 다문화 문식성 신장을 위해서는 문학교육이 중요하며, 한국어교육의 측면에서는 그 대상자에 따라 전략도 달라짐을 언급하였다. 즉 외국어교육, 자국어교육, 이중 언어교육이라는 맥락에 따라 교육적 실천 방안을 달리 마련해야 한다고 이야기했다. 결론적으로 이 글에서 말하는 다문화 사회의 한국어 문식성 신장은 언어를 넘어 문화를 지향하는 비판적 능력이며, 서로 다른 문화간의 차이를 인정하고 존중하는 간문화적 능력을 지향한다. 아울러 현대사회의 중요한 의사소통 수단인 미디어 문식성의 맥락으로까지 그 영역을 확장해야 한다는 점을 밝혔다.

This paper discusses strategies of Korean language education as a foreign language for increasing literacy in the multicultural society focusing on literature education. Through this multicultural literacy, characteristics of multiculturalsocietywasexplainedandtheimportanceofincreasing multicultural literacy in Korean language education was discussed. Furthermore, this paper defined the importance of not only the functional competence but also knowledge related to language and literature, sociocultural competence for increasing multicultural literacy. It also mentioned that literature education is important in increasing multicultural literacy and from the aspect of Korean language education, the strategies must vary according to its subjects. In other words, it spoke of ways of educational practice must be varied according to the context of foreign language education, native language education, bilingual education. Finally, increase of Korean language literacy in multicultural society discussed in this paper is of critical competency not only aiming for language proficiency but also for culture proficiency, as well as intercultural competency to accept and respect the differences between cultures. In addition, it reveals that it must be extended to media literacy, an important means of communication of the modern times.
