본고는 고유어 이름에 대한 전반적인 고찰을 하였다. 먼저 2장에서는 고유어 이름의 역사를 살피고, 3장에서는 고유어 이름짓기의 현황과 방법 및 문제점 그리고 앞으로의 전망을 알아보았다. 4장에서는 고유어 이름의 유형을 언어적 요인, 사회적 요인, 생성 동기에 의해서 20여 가지로 분류해 보았다. 5장에서는 고유어 이름에 나타난 여러 가지 사회언어학적인 특징을 살펴 시대별로 유행한 고유어 이름, 작명자의 특징, 남녀 이름의 성 차이, 고유어 이름에 나타난 한국인의 의식 구조, 부모의 가치관 등을 알아보았다. 현재 고유어 이름은 전체의 10% 미만이지만 언중의 의식이 바뀌고 고유어 이름의 문제점을 극복할 수 있는 이름짓기의 다양한 방법이 강구된다면, 점차 고유어 이름을 선호하게 될 것이다.
This study investigates general nature of person's name in native korean words. Chapter 2 examines the history on the person's name in native korean words. Chapter 3 addresses the present condition, methods, several problems and the future prospects on the subject followed by twenty classifications on linguistic factors, social factors, creation motivation in chaptor 4. In chapter5, socio-linguistical characteristics of Korean people are discussed on the person's name in native korean words. Popular names in the 79s-90s, propensity of namers, gender difference, the structure of consciousness, parents' value are included in the same part of the paper. Though it is less tthan 10% of the whole population, more people will likely to have nemes in native korean words if various approaches could be tried.
