본고는 고급 한국어 학습자가 연상을 통해 어휘를 능동적으로 학습하고 어휘를 확장하며 사회․문화적인 내용에 자연스럽게 접근하여 어휘에 대한 이해를 깊이 있게 할 수 있음을 보이고자 하는 목적에서 한국인의 머릿속에 내재된 어휘 의미가 무엇인지 살펴보고자 한국인을 대상으로 연상 실험을 실시하였다. 또한 한국인의 연상 결과가 고급 한국어 학습자의 연상 결과와 어떠한 차이가 있는지 살펴보고 연상을 통한 어휘의 내포 의미를 확인하고 어휘 확장 가능성을 탐색하였다. 연상 실험은 2011년 4월과 5월에 걸쳐 2주간 실시되었고 20대에서 40대에 이르는 60명의 한국인과 16명의 고급 한국어 학습자가 참여하였다. 자극어 ‘겨울, 어머니, 생일, 빨강, 채소, 후식, 비, 기차, 집, 돼지’에 대해 5개의 연상어를 쉼 없이 적는 방식으로 시행되었다.
The purpose of this study is to show advanced Korean learners can actively learn and expand vocabulary with word association which deepens processing the meaning of words and naturally approach Korean culture and society. For this purpose, word association experiments were carried by Koreans and were compared to those of advanced Korean learners. The experiments suggests that the connotative meanings of words could be searched and Korean learners deal with various vocabulary with word association. The experiments were carried by 60 Koreans and 16 advanced Korean learners with continuously writing 5 association-words to 10 stimulus-words; winter, mother, birthday, red, vegetables, dessert, rain, train, house, and pig. It carried for 2 weeks starting in April and ending in May in 2011.
