본 연구는 국내 장애예술의 개념 정의가 불분명한 현실에 따라 국내외 문헌분석을 통해 장애예술 개념을 구조화하고, 이를 통해 장애예술의 대표자라고 인식되고 있는 고슬링(Gosling) 의 작품을 사회적 모델 예술 차원에서 분석함으로써, 장애예술이 가져야 할 속성에 대해규명하였다. 장애예술을 창작의 주체와 주제에 따라 개념화한 후 가장 엄밀한 의미의 장애예술 개념이라고 할 수 있는 ‘장애인 주체적 사회적 모델 예술’ 유형에 따라 고슬링의 작품을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 과학이라는 사회적 권력이 손상을 비정상적인 것으로 간주하면서 손상의 제거라는 억압 장치를 만들어내고 있음을 확인하였다. 또 사회는 바퀴 기술이 장착된 휠체어에 열등하고 무능력하다는 상징을 부여하고 있고, 이에 따라 장애인을 그림자 인간으로 취급하고 있음을 확인하였다. 이에 따라 장애예술이 특정 양식으로 인정되고 사회적 지위를 가지기 위하여, 내용적 측면에서 사회적 모델을 따르고, 주체적 측면에서 장애인이 통제하는 예술이 될 수 있도록 지원이 이뤄져야 함을 제언하였다.
As the definition of disability arts in Korea is unclear, this study structured the concept of disability arts through the analysis of existing domestic and oversees literature and analyzed the work of Gosling, who is recognized as a representative of disability arts. After structuring disability arts according to the subjectivity and subject of creation, Gosling's works were analyzed according to the type of 'disabled people lead - social model arts', which can be said to be the most rigorous concept of disability arts. Through this, it was confirmed that the social power of science regarded impairment as abnormal and created a suppressive device called the removal of impairment. In addition, it was confirmed that society gave a symbol of inferiority and incompetence to wheelchairs equipped with wheel technology compared to the positive interaction between technology and humans, and thus treated disabled people as shadow humans. Through this analysis, it was confirmed that the value of disability arts as a form of disabled art can be stably recognized from the point of view of a social model. Therefore, in order for disability arts to be recognized as a specific style and to have a social status, it was suggested that support should be provided so that it could follow the social model in the content aspect and become art controlled by the disabled in the subjective aspect.
