영화 <그것만이 내 세상>에서의 자폐 스펙트럼 장애인 재현 분석

A Study on Representation of Person with Autism Spectrum Disorders in Film <Keys to the Heart>: Centered on Priestley’s Multiple Disability Model

본 연구는 자폐 스펙트럼 장애인을 주연으로 하는 <그것만이 내 세상> 영화를 중심으로Priestley(1998)의 다중 장애 모델에 입각하여 자폐 스펙트럼 장애인에 대한 재현 양상을분석하였다. 주인공의 등장 장면 총 76개 중에서 장애관을 함의하는 장면 42개가 추출되었다. 이러한 장면은 개별적 유물론 17개(40.48%), 개별적 관념론 11개(26.19%), 사회적 유물론 4개(9.53%), 사회적 관념론 10개(23.80%)로 범주화된다. 영화 속 장애 이미지 재현은 여전히 개별적 유물론에 치중되어 있음과 동시에 대중의 장애 편견과 낙인에 기여하고 있다. 본 연구는 영화분석을 통하여 향후 대중매체에서 자폐 스펙트럼 장애인과 관련하여 재고되어야 할 내용에 대하여 제시하고, 자폐 스펙트럼 장애인에 대한 관점을 재정립하는데 기여할 대중매체의 역할을 제안하며, 인식 개선의 방편으로의 대중매체 역할과 문화적 차원에서의 접근 필요성을 조명한다.

This study analyzed the representation modes of persons with autism spectrum disorders based on Priestley’s (1998) multiple disorder model, by focusing on the film <Keys to the Heart> in which a person with autism spectrum disorders appears as the main actor. It abstracted 42 scenes implying the disorder perspective from a total of 76 scenes. These scenes are categorized into individual materialism (n=17, 40.48%), individual idealism(n=11, 26.19%), social materialism (n=4, 9.53%) and social idealism (n=10, 23.80%). The representation of disorder images in the film is still focused on the individual materialism and simultaneously contributes to the public’s prejudice and stigma against the disorders. This study suggests the contests that need to be reconsidered in regard to persons with autism spectrum disorders in the future mass media by analyzing the film, proposes the role of the mass media which will contribute to reestablishing the public’s perspective of persons with autism spectrum disorders, and highlights the role of it as a measure for improving the public’s recognition and the need to culturally approach it.
