한국사회가 다문화 사회로 접어들면서, 다문화적 청소년의 수도 계속해서 증가하고 있지만 이들은 언어적 어려움, 정체성 혼란, 외모로 인한 차별 등으로 많은 문화적응 스트레스를 겪고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 다문화 청소년의 문화적응 스트레스와 그들의 집단괴롭힘 피해 경험 간의 관계에 집중하였다. 높은 수준의 문화적응 스트레스를 겪는 다문화 청소년들은 집단괴롭힘의 피해자가 될 가능성이 클 것으로 예측하였으며, 그 관계를 사회적 위축이 매개할 것이라 가정하였다. 따라서 이 연구는 한국청소년정책연구원에서 수행한 ‘다문화 청소년 패널조사(Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study: MAPS) 1기 데이터’ 중 6차 년도 자료를 분석에 사용하였다. 분석 결과 첫째, 다문화 청소년의 문화적응 스트레스는 집단 괴롭힘 피해 경험에 정(+)적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 다문화 청소년의 문화적응 스트레스와 집단괴롭힘 피해 경험 간의 관계에서 사회적 위축은 부분매개효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 다문화 청소년의 문화적응 스트레스를 줄일 방안으로써 이들을 대상으로 하는 비언어적 특징을 살린 미술치료와 언어 능력 향상을 위한 한국어 교육 프로그램 등을 제시하였다. 또한 비다문화 가정의 청소년을 대상으로 하는 차별 금지 교육도 고려하여 다문화 청소년들의 한국사회 조화와 적응에 대한 관심을 촉구하였다.
This study focused on the relationship between the acculturative stress of multicultural adolescents and their experiences of bullying victimization. It predicted that multicultural adolescents who experience high levels of cultural adaptation stress are likely to become victims of bullying, and assumed that the relationship is mediated by social withdrawal. Therefore, this study used the data of the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS) conducted by the Korea Institute of Youth Policy. First of all, the acculturative stress of multicultural adolescents had a positive effect on the experience of bullying victimization. Second, social withdrawal was found to have a partial mediating effect on the relationship between the acculturative stress of multicultural adolescents and the experience of bullying victimization. Based on the results of the analysis, this study recommends ways to reduce the acculturative stress among multicultural adolescents. Examples include art therapy for multicultural adolescents and Korean language education programs to improve their language skills. In addition, anti-discrimination education for adolescents from non-multicultural families will be necessary.
