The plantar fascia helps activate the intrinsic muscles of the soles. Accordingly, it was reported that the plantar fascia and the foot intrinsic muscle were related to the balance control function. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the objective effect can be achieved if the foot myofascial release (MFR), a factor that activates the foot intrinsic muscle in healthy adults, is applied in parallel with the short foot (SF) exercise. Prior to the experiment, 14 healthy adult men and women in their 20s were selected. Each exercise method performed by randomly selecting 4 control groups, 6 SF group, and 4 SF-MFR group was trained. All subjects were to be compared dynamic balance and the thickness of the intrinsic muscles with the modified star excursion balance test (MSEBT) and ultrasonography after 3-week interventions. It was found that there was a significant difference of minimal ankle inversion during 4 sections of MSEBT between the control, SF and SF-MFR groups (p=0.042). In post hoc, SF group was significantly increased the minimal ankle inversion compared to control group (p=0.019). Therefore, it suggests that SF exercise is effective in improving ankle stability during dynamic balance in the posteromedial direction compared to the control group. Therefore, SE exercise can be applied selectively to improve the dynamic balance of the posterior medial direction.
