영상접촉을 통한 정신장애인 편견개선에 관한 질적 사례연구

A qualitative case study on reducing perceived social stigma among non-disabled people through video contact

본 연구는 비장애인을 대상으로 정신장애인 당사자가 직접 기획 및 제작하고 출연한 영상을 시청함으로써 어떤 변화와 경험을 하였는지를 알아보기 위해 질적 사례연구방법으로 분석하였다. 본 연구를 수행하기 위해 연구대상자 4명을 대상으로 개별심층인터뷰를 진행하였으며, 연구 참여자들의 영상접촉의 경험과 인식 변화의 의미에 대한 진술을 분석하였다. 연구 참여자들의 진술내용을 분석한 결과 의미있는 진술의 근간으로 19개의 하위범주와 5개의 상위범주가 도출되었다. 본 연구결과를 통해 비장애인의 영상접촉은 정신장애인 편견개선에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 영상물은 사회문화적 파급력이 큰 콘텐츠로 정신장애인 편견개선을 위한 새로운 교육 자료로써 활용 가능한 전략을 모색할 필요가 있다. 연구 참여자들의 영상접촉 경험과 의미를 분석한 내용을 토대로 정신장애인의 편견개선을 위한 실천적 함의를 제시하였다.

This study utilized a qualitative case study to analyze and identify what changes and experiences non-disabled people went through in their contact to a video that mentally disabled people designed and produced and in which they appeared. This study was implemented by conducting in-depth individual interviews with four research participants and analyzing their experience of video contact and the meaning of changes in their perceptions. 5 essential categories with 19 sub-categories as meaningful data units were extracted through the analysis of data reported by research participants. The results found that the video contact of non-disabled people yields positive changes in their perceptions of the social stigma of mentally disabled people. Given that video is the content that has significant social and cultural impacts, it is needed to seek out strategies that utilize video as new educational materials. This study suggests practical implications for reducing the social stigma of mentally disabled people based on the analysis of the experience and meaning of video contact among non-disabled people.
