A Moderating Effects of Social Support in the Effect of Work Value on Organizational Committment: Focused on Hotel Newcomers

This study verified the effect of work value, as felt by new employees working in the hotel industry, on organizational committment and also the moderating effect of social support between work value and organizational committment. The results of this empirical study is summarized as followings. First, the study verified that, among inherent values, only social commitment and knowledge seeking had a positive(+) direction of influence on organizational committment, and among extrinsic values, only face-saving and stability seeking had a positive(+) direction of influence on organizational commitment. Second, as a result of verifying the effect of inherent values on organizational commitment according to emotional, informative and material support, the study revealed that organizational commitment increased, as the perception of emotional, informative and material support increased, on condition that the item, value of knowledge seeking, among inherent values, was perceived highly, On the other hand, if the item, economic priority and face-saving, scored highly among inherent values, then the higher the perception of emotional, informative and material support, the higher the organizational commitment. Third, as a result of verifying the effect of inherent values on organizational commitment according to evaluative support, the study revealed that organizational commitment increased, as the perception of evaluative support increased, on condition that the item, value of knowledge seeking and relationship-centered among inherent values, was perceived highly, On the other hand, if the item, economic priority, face-saving and stability seeking, scored highly among inherent values, then the higher the perception of evaluative support, the higher the organizational commitment.
