The study aims to analyze the features and patterns of Arabic fan subtitles attached to the BTS content on YouTube and Vlive to diagnose their current status and suggest directions to improve them. The research conducts the methodology investigating Arabic fan subtitles by seven categories: translation note, transliteration, reduction of meaning, reconstruction of contents, specification, flattening, and adjustment of formality. The result exhibits insufficiencies derived from the indirect translation mediated by English subtitles. Unlike English fansubbing, translation notes of BTS Arabic subtitles are applied only for internal lingual elements such as vocabulary and puns. Food names, proper nouns, buzzwords, compound words, and culture-related words kept the conventional subtitle translation strategies, such as transliteration, reduction of meaning, reconstruction of contents, specification, and flattening. This paper found creative and innovative phrases in addition to informalized expressions demanding adjustment of formalities. Although fan translation contributes in terms of the spreading of the Korean Wave, the participation of experts in Korean Arabic translation is required by auditing the contents or coordinating with fan subtitlers to reduce frequent errors and improve quality.
