Purpose – The purpose of this study is the analysis of legal standards for North Korean Trade-Related Law in order to provide academic implications to enhance the appropriate utilization. Design/Methodology/Approach – This paper uses literature research on North Korean Laws. Findings – The legal standards for the responsibility of contracting parties under North Korean laws were noted. Research Implications – This study focused on the legal basis of North Korean trade law. A summary of the characteristics of North Korean trade law is as follows. First, the composition of individual laws is very monotonous. Since most of the bylaws or subordinate statutes are not kept, there are considerable problems in interpreting or distinguishing the meaning of the law. Second, there are many statutes that omit definitions of terms in individual laws. This is causing confusion due to the absence of legal terminology. Third, there are many laws that are mutually related, so confusion is expected in the application of the law due to the interaction of these laws. Fourth, criminal responsibility is emphasized in the case of the violation of individual laws, and the entity of the state agency controlling trade is not clear in trade-related laws.
