역사교육에서 구술사를 활용하기 위한 이론적 고찰

Theoretical Consideration for Utilizing Oral History in History Education

우리나라 역사교육 현장에서 구술사의 활용은 활발하지 않았다. 역사 교사들에게 구술사가 익숙하지 않은 영역이었고 구술사 방법론을 정규 교육과정에 접목하여 수업을 구안하고 실시하는 것이 쉽지 않았기 때문이다. 따라서 구술사를 활용한 역사 수업 연구는 대부분 구술사 프로젝트 중심의 수업 설계로 진행되었다. 본 연구는 이를 보완하기 위해 먼저 구술사 이론을 검토하고 ‘역사 서술, 자료, 연구 방법’의 성격을 모두 포함하는 구술사 개념의 특성을 반영한 수업 설계의 필요성을 제기하였다. 또한 기존 구술사 수업의 문제점인 ‘구술사 이론과 방법론 학습에 치중한 수업 설계, 구술자 선정과 역사 쓰기의 어려움, 학교 밖 프로젝트 중심의 수업’을 보완하여 학교 안에서 실행할 수 있는 구술사 수업을 교육과정에 반영하는 대안을 제시하였다. 그리고 ‘구술사 하기’를 개념화하여 역사적 ‘탐구, 내러티브, 감정이입’의 원리를 적용한 구술사 수업안 개발을 제언하였다. 본 연구에서 제시한 구술사 수업 유형을 구체화하여 현장 적용을 모색하는 추후 연구는 구술사를 경험하는 데 초점을 맞추는 것이 아니라 학생들의 역사 탐구 능력과 내러티브 이해 그리고 감정이입을 증진하는 것에 유의할 필요가 있다.

In the field of history education in Korea, the use of oral history was not active. This is because oral history was an unfamiliar area for history teachers, and it was not easy to devise and implement classes by incorporating oral history methodology into the regular curriculum. Therefore, most of the historical class studies using oral history were conducted with a class design centered on oral history projects. To compensate for this, this study first reviewed the oral history theory and raised the need for instructional design that reflects the characteristics of the oral history concept that includes all the characteristics of ‘history description, data, and research method’. It also supplemented the problems of the existing oral history classes, such as ‘class design focused on oral history theory and methodology learning, difficulties in selecting interviewees and writing history, and out-of-school project-oriented classes’ and suggested an alternative to reflect oral history classes in the curriculum. In addition, it was suggested to develop a oral history class plan that applied the principle of historical ‘exploration, narrative, and empathy’ by conceptualizing ‘doing oral history’. Future studies seeking field application by specifying the type of oral history classes presented in this study need to pay attention to enhancing students' ability to explore history, narrative understanding, and empathy, not focusing on experiencing oral history.
