Changes in Media Perceptions about Shared Accommodation : Focused on before and after COVID-19

The purpose of this study is to investigate how the media recognize shared accommodations such as guesthouses and airbnb around COVID-19. 11 media’s article analysis was conducted by using contents analysis and political & institutional improvement plan was suggested. As a result, ‘lawful & illegal dispute and policy’ item after COVID-19 grew the most. Generally, ‘economic & touristic vitalization of region’, ‘growth & innovation industry’, ‘the value of sharing economy’, ‘online platform business’, ‘lawful & illegal dispute and policy’, ‘stakeholder conflict situation‘ in steps of before & after COVID-19 was analyzed as main perception contents. Based on a comprehensive analysis, the study suggested an institutional relaxation of shared accommodation such as urban-home stay for foreign tourists by allowing domestic tourists and an innovative change in policy in order to resolve sharp conflicts between interest groups. As an additional suggestion, development of regional online platform is required to create a profit structure for local residents.
