The purpose of this study is to investigate the fixed expressions of business emails for business Korean education. This corpus-pragmatic research analyzes Korean Business Email Corpus(K-BEC) to identify the authentic fixed expressions in this genre that are necessary for teaching business Korean to foreign learners for occupational purposes. To identify core expressions, the notion ‘face’(‘universally’ defined by Brown and Levinson) is redefined in the Korean style. As a result, ‘많으십니다’, ‘드립니다’, ‘바랍니다’ are used as polite expressions of business email to save Korean face. In addition, certain Korean business lexis based on Chinese characters and their combinations with ‘많으십니다’, ‘드립니다’, ‘바랍니다’ are used as fixed expressions to express their politeness at the workplace. This corpus-pragmatic study with K-BEC is useful to teach authentic fixed expressions to learners of Korean for General Business Purposes(KGBP).
