This study aims to provide information for the study of Ming Dynasty furniture by analyzing the modeling characteristics of the Ming Dynasty official hat chair and the Chinese culture contained behind it. Through literature retrieval and case analysis, this paper mainly analyzes the 60 existing official hat chairs from the aspects of their definition, morphological structure, decorative patterns and materials. The official hat chair is the perfect combination of literati thought and craftsman technology. Because of its special form and its cultural implication is highly respected by the world, especially the literati. Official hat chair shape is elegant and concise, shaped like an ancient official hat. Its brain, backboard, armrest, goose neck and sickle stick to S-shaped curve. The backplate plate is a single plate perpendicular to the seat plate, with four Cheng and u-shaped dental plates between the legs; most official hat chairs have no decorative patterns, and occasionally a small amount of decoration is mainly concentrated on the backplate and dental plate. The theme of dragon and phoenix patterns is the most common, and the chairs are mainly yellow pear and rosewood. These characteristics of the official hat chair are the infiltration of the literati thought into the field of furniture, which provides a reference for the study of the overall characteristics of the official hat chair and furniture in the Ming Dynasty.
