해방 이후 대전지역 상공회의소의 활동과 성격

The Activities and Characteristics of the Daejeon Chamber of Commerce after the Liberation

대전은 근현대의 성격이 강한 도시로 발달과정에서 많은 기업인들이 지역경제를 주도하였다. 따라서 근현대도시 대전의 성격을 파악하기 위해서는 대전지역 기업인에 관한 역사적인 분석이 필요하다. 본고는 해방 이후부터 1950년대까지 대전지역 기업인들을 상공회의소를 중심으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 일제강점기 대전지역의 주요 조선인 재계 인사들을 확인하였으며 해방 이후충청남도상공회의소와 대전상공회의소의 조직 및 주요 활동을 확인하였다. 일제강점기 대전은 교통의 요지로 발전하였으나 산업기반이 부족하였다. 충청남도의 수부도시였음에도 불구하고 상대적으로 대기업인 귀속기업체의 수가적었고 해방 직후 지역 재계를 귀속기업체가 주도하지도 못하였다. 지역 재계의 주요 인사들은 정계와 관계를 맺었으나 전국 추세와 달리 적극적으로 정치에 참여하지는 않았다. 대전과의 연고성이 약하고 전체적으로 연소하였다는 점도 특징이다. 대전상공회의소가 설립되며 재계가 조직화되었지만, 지역의 현안을 해결하기 위한 새로운 대안을 제시하기보다 일제강점기 경제에서 비롯한 구조적 한계에서 벗어나지 못하는 모습을 보여주었다.

Daejeon is a city with strong modern and contemporary characteristics, and many entrepreneurs in it have led the local economy in the process of development. Therefore, to grasp the characteristics of Daejeon as a modern and contemporary city, it is needed to analyze entrepreneurs in Daejeon historically. This study is aimed to examine entrepreneurs in Daejeon from the time of liberation to the 1950’s focusing on the Chamber of Commerce. To address the goal, this researcher identified major Korean business leaders in Daejeon during the Japanese colonial era and the organization and main activities of the Chungcheongnam-do Chamber of Commerce and Daejeon Chamber of Commerce after the liberation. In the Japanese colonial era, Daejeon developed as a traffic hub but lacked the industrial foundation. Although it was the capital city in Chungcheongnamdo, there were relatively fewer attributed enterprises that were the major cor porations, and right after the liberation, the attributed enterprises failed to lead the local business world. Major figures in the local business world had relations with the political world, but they did not participate in politics actively contrary to the national trends. They were also characterized by little connection with Daejeon and young ages mostly. As the Daejeon Chamber of Commerce was founded, the business community came to be organized; however, it revealed structural limitations that had originated from the economy of the Japanese colonial era instead of presenting new alternatives to solve pending issues in the region.
