A Cognitive Study on the Metonymy of Comparative Sentences describing the Tea in Korean and Chinese Languages: around Korean expressions corresponding to both words of ‘高(High)’ and ‘低(Low)’ based on comparison from Chinese language
Comparison is a universal phenomenon in man’s life as a method of comparing more than one object or situation. We often use comparative expressions comparing more than object or situation in our daily lives. There are some similarities and differences between Korean and Chinese languages in such comparative expression styles. So, this article aims to find and consider differences in the comparative expression ways by studying the comparative result expressions in some comparative sentences describing the tea in Korean and Chinese contemporary novel texts. Among the expressions, this article intends to examine several expression ways in Korean language being corresponded to ‘高(high)’ and ‘低(low)’ of Chinese words as a comparative result in comparative sentences describing the tea in aspect of writing technique ‘metonymy’, one of major interests in cognitive linguistics. Among them, this article intends to examine the metonymy based on the expanding call that expands from a part to the whole, and the diminishing call that diminishes from the whole to a part. And it will consider the guidance function in aspect of expansive call, and the differences in active areas and profile as well as the reference point in aspect of diminishing call.
