Present studies as to word-meaning in Chinese academy are mostly manifested instatic ones directing to the system of signification, from the angle of the signified, onone level. In effect, two levels exist in the system, namely the signifier- lexeme-meaning and the signified- word meaning. On this account, this article will, from the perspective of the relationship between the signified and the signifier, to wit. that between lexeme-meaning and word meaning, make a vertical analysis around compound nouns of double lexemes both in English and in Chinese, a synchronic as well as dynamic analysis pertaining to how lexeme-meaning, during the course of composing a new word-meaning, influences the latter.
