Currently, in Korea, there are total 23 Confucius institutes and 13 Confucius schools while Confucius institutes of Sehan University and Honam University have branch institutes. Regarding main activities of Confucius institutes in Korea, every Confucius institute provides Chinese education. Some Confucius institutes including Seoul Confucius Institute are operating programs like training course of Chinese language instructors for children, training course of Chinese conversation instructors, and training course of domestic Chinese language teachers. Confucius institutes of Korea are operating/supervising the HSK examination hall, and also enhancing the understanding of Chinese language by holding Chinese culture courses or seminars. On top of holding diverse contests, they also host the invitation performance by art troupes of partner schools of China, and also Chinese folk photograph exhibitions. And Chinese culture trip and training in China are performed. Confucius institutes of Korea are recommending scholarship students of Confucius institutes for the spread of Chinese education & Chinese culture, and also the cultivation of Chinese language teachers and talent. In order to promote the in-depth understanding of China and Chinese culture and researches on Chinese classics by excellent talent in the whole world, the Confucius new Chinese classics plan is established/operated. Regarding the improvement direction of Confucius institutes of Korea, first, it would be urgently needed to smoothly recruit Chinese language instructors. Through the teaching method of Chinese language each time, the qualitative improvement measures for Chinese language instructors should be sought for. Also, each Confucius institute should widely inform to members of university and community through diverse promotion. Lastly, the characterized Confucius institutes should be operated. Each Confucius institute should work hard to develop into an original institute with its own local characteristics.
