As kin appellations, both of the titles to husband’s relatives by wife and the titles to wife’s relatives by husband have many nomenclatures according to children’s relation with those relatives. The two kinds of titles are different obviously in Chinese rural area because of the influences from the traditional paternity culture and the marriage custom of living in husband’s house: The wife call the husband’s parents with the same kin appellations just as her husband’s appellations, whereas the husband call the wife’s parents with estranged non-kin appellations. The situations at which the two kinds of titles are used are also different distinctly. The traditional forms and the changes of the two kinds of titles depend on the differences of the roles of a husban and a wife in a clan structure.
