Women as ‘Messenger’ of Music: Musical Patronage and Transfer of Musical Culture by Women from the Habsburg Family during the Early Modern Period

도시와 국가의 경계를 넘어 이동하고 전파되는 근대 초기 음악 및 음악문화의 주체가 되었던 여성의 모습이 두드러지게 눈에 띄는 곳은 강력한 혼인정책을 폈던 합스부르크 가문이다. 그 중에서 마리아 안나 폰 바이에른, 클라우디아 데 메디치, 안나 데 메디치의 행보 및 성과가 눈길을 끄는데, 이들은 인문주의의적 교육을 진지하게 받은, 자신에게 익숙하고 자신의 관심을 끄는 음악의 작가, 양식, 장르, 작품을 포기하기 않은 자의식 강한 여인들이었다. 이에 섭정자로서, 국모로서, 무엇보다 당대 음악의 정점을 이루어낸 지역이나 근대음악 양식 및 장르의 발상지 출신으로서 이들이 확고한 신념 및 주동적 행동으로 옮기고 북돋은 작가, 양식, 장르, 작품들은 초기근대음악의 중심을 이루는 것들이고, 그것들은 그들의 궁정과 도시는 물론이고 더 나아가 황제의 궁정과 도시에까지 닿아 정착했다. 그렇게 빈과 그라츠, 인스부르크는 이탈리아의 선도적인 도시들과 함께 유럽 근대음악의 초기 중심지로서의 명성을 누릴 수 있었고, 또 그렇게 역사에 남았다.

It is the Habsburg family, which administered an active marriage policy, that shows a role of women who were in the center of the Early Modern period music and the phenomena of the music culture transferred over the border of cities and countries. There are accomplishments by Maria Anna von Bayern, Claudia de’ Medici, and Anna de’ Medici, which attract interest among them. These women did not give up the authors, styles, genres, and compositions of music which were familiar to them and attracted their interest. They supported authors, styles, genres, and compositions with firm belief and initiatives as a regent, a mother of a nation, and, above all, as one from the region of origin of the styles and genres of the early modern age music. By this, Wien, Graz, and Innsbruck was able to enjoy the fame as the initial stage center of the European modern age music.
