This paper focuses on court as a pre-stage of forming music public based on the cases of several courts; Austria, France, Parma, Prussia, Saxony, and Württemberg. In the first part, it describes the musical lives of court; court theater and concert for various occasions. Court theater was developed and closely related with opera. The origin, size and progress of theater in various courts are investigated. On the other hand, the purpose, types, procedure and repertory of court concert are examined. In the second part, the roles of court are summarized as follows. First, as the patron of composer, singer and instrumental players, court gave them the working base by providing the permanent position and financial support. Secondly, it became an import channel for the new and foreign works. Thirdly, it was the role model for the aristocracy and high middle class to lead the musical taste and pattern of musical activity. Fourthly, it influenced on public music sphere in several ways, for example, by supporting the public theater and concert financially; through the private relationship between court and the heads of public institutions. Lastly, court shared their musical collection with the musical salons of high aristocracy, and sometimes, with the public concerts. Therefore, it contributed to the enlargement of music public of that time.
