The recent scholarship has made significant contributions to illuminating the liturgical meaning and context of sacred music. Owing to this, the liturgy has been considered an indispensable element in historic performance of sacred music. Sometimes the conductors different views on the same piece result in producing so diverse liturgical frames. The present work compares the liturgical frames of the several major historic performances of Monteverdis Vespers. The reason why the piece is chosen is because there is no such piece as Vespers whose liturgical origin has been fiercely argued.
