Mozart's artistic creativity is markedly shown in his technique of applying conventional idioms through which he communicated with his audience. The best way to understand his expressive vocabulary would be to examine the musical language in his operas, since it develops its own plot. In this study, the treatment of the conventional idioms in Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni was analyzed in four categories based on Mozart's own statement about Die Entführung aus dem Serail: overture as an anticipation of an opera, description of characters' class and nature, description of changing moods or affection, and technique of conversion between scenes. This study can provide a somewhat clear view to draw a whole picture of Mozart's rhetoric in his instrumental music
