The criticism on Official Verse Culture by Charles Bernstein takes on the similar features to the strategies of Cultural jamming which was caused in response to the spectacle of the capitalist society. Bernstein’s language poetry takes on a similar feature in its subversive and resistant strategies to Culture jamming which turns out to be critical movement toward the daily life of Capitalist ideology represented by mass culture and consumerism. In the late 1990s, Kalle Lasn, who initiated the Culture Jamming, pronounced that historical context of Culture Jamming resulted from incipient punk rockers, hippie in 1960s, Situationist Internationalist, surrealists, dadaists, and anarchists resisting against capitalist social ideologies. In this vein, it seems possible to infer that Bernstein and the poetics of language poetry must have intellectual affinities with ideologically subversive and resistant aesthetics to capitalism society witnessed in the strategies of Culture jamming. In this respect, realizing that Bernstein’s poetics takes on similar features to Debord’s socio-cultural concepts, it seems possible to say that language poetry is not just a literary trend, but rather it should be regarded as ideological significance that redefine poetry as part of popular culture.
