A Study on Noh Cheon Myeong’s Prose during the Korean War : Cartography and Writing Strategies in Noh’s Memoirs, Letters, and Essays

이 논문에서는 노천명의 한국전쟁기 글쓰기를 ‘부역 여성작가’로서의 사회적, 문단적 위치 및 그와 같은 위치를 규정하는 권력관계의 ‘카르토그라피’를 드러낸 시도로서 재조명하였다. 이를 위해 기존의 전집들 및 연구에서 불철저하게 다루어져왔던 수기, 편지, 수필을 포괄하는 노천명의 산문을 연구 대상으로 새롭게 포함하였다. 또한 그로부터 노천명이 여러 문학 장르를 활용해가며, 자신이 처해있었던 문단 안팎에서의 억압과 배제의 상황을 드러내려 했던 측면을 부각하는 한편, 그 장르별 글쓰기 전략의 차이를 분석하였다. 이를 통해 궁극적으로는 반공주의, 가부장제, 문단문학 제도가 지배적인 전후 한국문학에서 주목 받지 못한 부역 여성작가의 전쟁 체험과 서사를 가시화했으며, 그 점에서 노천명 문학의 의의를 재평가하였다.

This paper re-examined Noh Cheon Myeong’s works written during the Korean War as an attempt to reveal the “cartography” of the power relations that defined her social and literary position as a “female writer and traitor.” To this end, this study newly incorporated the entire prose texts by Noh, including her memoirs, letters, and essays, which had not been thoroughly covered by existing collections and studies, as research materials. While highlighting Noh’s tendency to use various literary genres to actively disclose the oppression and exclusion she experienced, this study analyzed the different writing strategies she used by genre. Through this analysis, this study identified the war experience and narratives of a female writer and traitor, a topic that has not been sufficiently discussed in postwar Korean literature dominated by anti-communism, patriarchy, and literary circles and reevaluated the significance of Noh Cheon Myeong’s literary works.
