In 1910 T. S. Eliot bought a marbled notebook from the Old Comer Book Store in East Gloucester, inscribed his title, INVENTIONS OF THE MARCH HARE, and copied his more experimental poems. Christopher Ricks edited those forty pomes and published them in 1996 by the title Inventions of the March Hare: poems 1909~1917 by T. S. Eliot. There we can find Eliot`s original “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” written in 1911 which is composed of three parts, such as “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, Lines 1~69”, “Prufrock Pervigilium”, and “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock resumed”. It ha a subtitle named “Prufrock among the Women” and a different epigraph from that of the 1915`s. Besides, we can find many revised lines, words, and punctuation makes in the 1915`s “Prufrock”. My aim is to find out if the revised poetry is much improved and cultivated, compared with the original. And my conclusion is absolutely yes because his revision is very successful and contributes to the presentation of his zone of consciousness and his stream of consciousness as well. His code of revision is to find the better objective correlatives and to make us feel his emotion and thought directly, I think. Even his courses of revision may be nothing else than his objective correlatives, much more his Two “Love Songs of J. Alfred Prufrock themselves.”
