미디어 리터러시를 활용한 대학생 교양 역사 수업 방안 고찰

A Study on the College Student Liberal History Class Using Media Literacy

현재 국내외적으로 미디어 리터러시를 활용한 교육에 대해 관심이 뜨겁다. 하지만 아직까지 역사교과에서 미디어 리터러시를 활용한 연구는 거의 없는 실정이다. 본 연구는 대학생들을 대상으로 미디어 리터러시를 활용한 교양 역사 수업을 실시한 실행연구이다. 수업은 2022년 1학기에 온라인zoom으로 진행되었다. 연구를 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생들은 영화 미디어를 활용한 수업의 과정에서 익숙한 내용에 더 관심을 보였으며, 새로운 호기심을 가지기도 했다. 둘째, 학생들이 배경지식을 잘 알고 있을때 보다 비판적으로 미디어를 분석하는 경향이 있었다. 셋째, 학생들은 토론 과정에서 자신의 지식이 정확하다는 것을 인지하고, 동료와 교수자를 통해 지지를 받았을 때 자신감을 얻을 수 있었다. 넷째, 대학 구성원의 다양성은 역사 해석의 다양성을 이해하는데 충분히 도움이 될 수 있으리라 여겨진다. 본 연구는 앞으로 미디어 리터러시를 어떻게 역사교육에 도입하여 활용할 것인지에 대한 하나의 방향성을 제시하였다. 비록 하나의 학교를 대상으로 한 실험이기에 그한계가 명확하지만 앞으로 더 많은 연구가 이루어지기를 기대한다.

Today, interest in education using media literacy is hot at home and abroad. However, there are few studies that have utilized media literacy in history subjects. This study is an implementation study of liberal arts history classes using media literacy targeting college students. Classes were held online zoom in the first semester of 2022. The results of the study are as follows. First, students showed more interest in familiar contents in the course of classes using film media, and also had new curiosity. Second, when students were well aware of the background knowledge, they tended to analyze the media more critically. Third, students were able to gain confidence when they recognized that their knowledge was accurate during the discussion process and were supported by peers and instructors. Fourth, it is believed that the diversity of university members can be sufficiently helpful in understanding the diversity of historical interpretation. This study presented a direction for how to introduce and utilize media literacy in history education in the future. Although the limitations of this study are clear since it is an experiment targeting one school, more research is expected to be conducted in the future.
